i've been gone so long.

i've still been taking a photo most days, i just have been too busy to post. first it was finals then family in town then going out of town then getting everything ready for my website (which is mostly up.)
and not having the internet at home hasn't facilitated things either.

BUT

i'm back now. with renewed determination to post regularly.

so, instead of trying to go back and figure out which photos i took when (especially with so many cyanotypes in the mix) i'll just post a random collection of favorites.

then we'll be back to normal.

ever wondered what i might look like with a beehive (practically) and tons of makeup?

yeah i hadn't either, but regardless, there's your answer.

my good friend and fellow photographer alisha is trying to decide whether she wants to offer large format bridal portraits, so she asked me to model for a test shoot.
she sent me off to a hair and makeup lady and that's what i ended up with; fake eyelashes and a beehive.

for someone who goes to sleep with wet hair and no intention of brushing it in the morning and barely wears any makeup, it was pretty fun.

when i got home andy said i looked like an air hostess from the sixties (reference to flight of the conchords).

however, removing the fake eyelashes and all that backcombing was not as fun.
ah the things we do for beauty.

anyway, i'll let you know when alisha posts the photos on her blog.

andy and i teach primary, and our class was in charge of sharing time this week.
kind of scary...
i can't say i'm looking forward to the next time. at least we'll have learned our lesson not to give our kids candy beforehand.

on the upside, i had to print some scriptures out, and i dug out an awesome font from my archives (i'm an avid font downloader).

this was my first time using it, but i definitely want to find some excuses to use it again.

my dad came to town and we drove to moab. i didn't take any photos. i took a photo of a lamp in our hotel room early the next morning, and i thought about posting it and pretending that it was march 5ths photo. but i'm pretty sure my dad thought it was worthless because it wasn't a photo of red rocks and he deleted it (it was on his point&shoot). at least i haven't seen it since.

i guess i can't get away with dishonesty.

anyways, this is a networking lunch for the byu young alumni that i got to shoot for the magazine. i got to schmooze with the business types, and i even handed out a few of my own business cards.

the few times i've not accomplished the goal of taking my daily photo, i've done it consciously.
it'll be like 1 in the morning (not even technically that day anymore), and i'll be going to bed, and the guilty thought will cross my mind "i didn't take my picture today...woops." but i'll go to bed anyway.

so i guess i have no excuse.

this time i didn't have any guilty thoughts--i didn't have any thoughts at all. in fact, i didn't even realize i hadn't taken a photo until now.

after spending sunday morning fulfilling our church calling (hanging out with a bunch of 8 year-olds), andy and i spent the whole rest of our day totally absorbed in reading this book to each other. it was probably written more for 8 year-olds than 20something year-olds, but it was awesome nonetheless.
we read the entire book that day.

so that's my excuse. woops.

these photos have a semi-tragic background:
i was assisting my boss on a job for lincoln's birthday.
they had a lincoln impersonator whose resemblance to the real lincoln was uncanny.
i took a portrait of him thinking "awesome, my photo for the day."
i even had a witty little caption planned out for the post. something like "happy 200th birthday lincoln, you don't look a day over 50."
later in the evening, after lincoln had left and we were cleaning up, i pulled my camera out to look at the photo.
much to my surprise, there was no card.
i had been in such a rush that i didn't even check for a card, and if there was a warning i didn't notice it.
so, no lincoln photos. i had to content myself with the ceiling and bathroom of the provo library.
oh well.

this is a leaf off of my rubbertree plant. i love how glossy they are.

so as you may have noticed, most of my images so far have just been around the house things because i put off my daily photo until late at night and my options are limited at that point. i really need to start taking my camera with me everywhere.

for 2009 i've decided (at the urging of photojojo) to make a new years photo resolution:

i will take a picture every day.

i think this project will help me to open my eyes more and to see the beauty in the ordinary things around me.
i've created this blog to post my daily photos, and will do my best to update as often as possible.

so here's to 2009 and to taking photos daily.
